Method
 

  1. In your saucepan, pour in the milk and water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. This usually takes just a few minutes.
  2. Once the milk mixture is simmering, gradually whisk in the cream of rice cereal. Make sure to whisk constantly as you add it to prevent any lumps from forming.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and continue to stir frequently. Let the cream of rice simmer for about 3-5 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. Keep stirring to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract (if using). Mix well until everything is fully incorporated.

Notes

You can easily adjust the consistency of your cream of rice by using more or less milk. For a richer flavor, try using whole milk or adding a pat of butter at the end of cooking.
