Ingredients

For the Breadsticks
  • 1.5 cups Warm Water approx 110°F or 43°C
  • 2.25 tsp Active Dry Yeast 1 standard packet
  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 3.5 cups All-Purpose Flour plus more for dusting
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted Butter melted
For the Garlic Butter Topping
  • 0.5 cup Salted Butter melted
  • 2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Dried Italian Seasoning
  • 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the Dough: Stir in the melted butter and salt into the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Breadsticks: Punch down the dough and roll it into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle. Cut into 12 strips.
  5. Second Rise: Place strips on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Apply Topping: While baking, mix together all topping ingredients. As soon as the breadsticks are out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter. Serve warm.

Notes

Yeast Tip: Ensure your water is warm, not hot. Water that's too hot can kill the yeast, preventing your dough from rising.
Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-7 minutes.
