Cook Time 3 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1 cup
Course: Dessert, sauce
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use a good quality brand for best results.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt Just a pinch to enhance flavor.

Equipment

  • 1 Small Saucepan
  • 1 Whisk

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until combined. This helps prevent lumps.
  2. Add the water to the saucepan. Whisk constantly over medium heat until the mixture comes to a gentle boil and all ingredients are smoothly combined.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the syrup simmer for 1-2 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the syrup to cool completely before transferring to a storage container. It will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

For a thicker syrup: Simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
