Maple Buttercream
  • 2 cups (450g) Unsalted Butter Softened but cool
  • 4-5 cups (500-625g) Powdered Sugar Sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Pure Maple Syrup Grade A recommended
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Maple Extract
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) Fine Sea Salt
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) Heavy Cream Optional, for consistency
Visual Garnish
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Maple Syrup For the decorative drizzle

Equipment

  • 1 Stand Mixer Fitted with a paddle attachment.
  • 1 Piping Bag Large, heavy-duty.
  • 1 Open Star Piping Tip Wilton 1M or 2D recommended.

Method
 

Prepare the Butter Base
  1. Beat the softened unsalted butter in a stand mixer on medium-high for 5 minutes until it turns a very pale ivory color.
Build the Structure
  1. Lower speed and gradually add sifted powdered sugar one cup at a time until fully incorporated.
  2. Add 1/4 cup maple syrup, maple extract, and salt. Beat on medium for 2 minutes until a velvety, pale tan frosting forms.
Piping and Finishing
  1. Transfer to a piping bag with a star tip. Pipe high, thick swirls onto cooled vanilla cupcakes, creating distinct ridges.
  2. Lightly drizzle extra maple syrup over the top of the frosting peaks for a translucent amber finish.
