  • 2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour 312g, spooned and leveled
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder 14g
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda 1g
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder For the dry mix
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter 113g, cold and cubed
  • 1 ½ cups Sharp Yellow Cheddar Cheese 170g, shredded and divided
  • 1 cup Buttermilk 240ml, cold
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter 56g, melted
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Dried Parsley Flakes

Equipment

  • 1 9x5 inch Loaf Pan Greased with butter
  • 1 Pastry Brush For the garlic glaze
  • 1 Rectangular White Ceramic Plate For serving

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
  2. Add cold cubed butter to the flour. Use a pastry cutter to work the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces remaining.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of cheddar cheese. Pour in cold buttermilk and fold gently until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.
Shape and Bake
  1. Scoop 8-10 golf-ball-sized portions of dough and place them side-by-side in a greased loaf pan.
  2. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top of the mounds.
  3. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is bubbling with crispy edges and the loaf is golden brown.
Glaze and Serve
  1. Whisk melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley. Brush liberally over the hot loaf immediately after removing it from the oven.
