Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced pepperoni
  • 4 ounces sliced deli ham
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced sweet bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour for dusting
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup warm marinara sauce for dipping

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Parchment Paper

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll pizza dough into a 10x14-inch rectangle. Transfer dough to the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of flour evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Layer with provolone cheese, ham, pepperoni, shredded mozzarella, bell peppers, and red onion.
  3. Starting from a long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam and ends firmly to seal. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  4. Whisk egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush over the stromboli. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan. Cut 4-5 diagonal slits across the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until deep golden brown.
  5. Let the stromboli rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Don't Overfill: Too many fillings can cause the stromboli to burst while baking.
Seal It Tight: A proper seal is crucial to keep the cheese and fillings inside.
Let It Rest: Allowing it to rest before slicing helps the cheese set and prevents the fillings from spilling out.
