- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease. Add diced onion and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Reduce heat to low. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
- Pour the beef mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the cheese.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the filling is bubbly and the tots are lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup of cheese. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the tots are deep golden brown and crispy.
- Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes
For the crispiest tots, make sure they are in a single, even layer.
Feel free to add 1 cup of drained, canned green beans or corn to the beef mixture for extra veggies.
Letting the casserole rest before serving allows it to set up, making it easier to serve.
