  • 1 1/4 cup plain unsweetened non-dairy milk Such as almond, oat, or soy milk
  • 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch black pepper about 1/16 tsp
  • 1/2-1 tsp agave nectar or maple syrup Optional, to taste
  • 1/8 tsp ground cardamom Optional
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper Optional
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Optional

Method
 

  1. Pour the non-dairy milk into a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the grated ginger, ground turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, and any optional spices or sweetener.
  3. Whisk everything together thoroughly to break up any spice clumps and create a smooth mixture.
  4. Bring the latte to a gentle simmer (do not boil) and let it heat for 2-5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Pour the warm turmeric latte into a mug, garnish with extra cinnamon if desired, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

For a completely smooth latte, you can strain it through a fine-mesh sieve before serving. You can use 1/2 tsp of grated fresh turmeric instead of ground turmeric. For an iced version, prepare as directed, let cool completely, and pour over ice.
