Method
- In a small saucepan, add your milk of choice, ground turmeric, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and a pinch of black pepper.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Whisk the ingredients together until the turmeric is fully dissolved to prevent clumps.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, but do not boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the coconut oil or ghee (if using) until it melts. Add honey or maple syrup to taste.
- Pour into a mug and serve immediately. Garnish with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.
Notes
For a smoother texture, you can use an immersion blender before serving. To make this with fresh ingredients, substitute the ground turmeric and ginger with a 1-inch piece of grated fresh turmeric and a 1/2-inch piece of grated fresh ginger; strain before serving. Remember to add the honey off-heat to retain its beneficial properties.
