Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 inch fresh turmeric root, thinly sliced or 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 inch fresh ginger root, thinly sliced or 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper a small pinch
  • 1-2 tsp fresh lemon juice to taste
  • 1-2 tsp honey or maple syrup optional, to taste

  • 1 Mug Your favorite large mug

Method
 

  1. If using fresh ingredients, wash and thinly slice the turmeric and ginger root. No need to peel.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a gentle simmer over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the sliced turmeric, ginger, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer gently for 5-10 minutes. The longer it steeps, the more potent the tea.
  4. Carefully pour the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a large mug to catch the solids.
  5. Squeeze in the fresh lemon juice and stir in honey or maple syrup if desired. Serve immediately while warm.
