Method
- If using fresh ingredients, wash and thinly slice the turmeric and ginger root. No need to peel.
- In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a gentle simmer over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced turmeric, ginger, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer gently for 5-10 minutes. The longer it steeps, the more potent the tea.
- Carefully pour the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a large mug to catch the solids.
- Squeeze in the fresh lemon juice and stir in honey or maple syrup if desired. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
For a creamier version, add a splash of coconut milk. For an iced tea, let it cool completely and pour over ice with a fresh lemon slice. Be careful, as turmeric can stain surfaces and clothing.
